At Honors Review Learning Center, we have various writing courses for students of all ages. We teach students good writing habits starting from an early age and continue to help them as they progress through the school years. We cover all types of essays including creative, persuasive, analytical and research papers so that students get well-rounded exposure to all kinds of writing. Students also encounter a wide range of topics to exercise their critical thinking skills, which also serves as practice for standardized testing.
We have taken the essays that our students have written over the years and uploaded them for you to see. They are divided by grade level, and serve as an essential resource for students and teachers alike. Students are encouraged to read other students' essays, think about the responses and how they would respond themselves. They can serve as a useful reference tool just to get some ideas and see how other students write. This is also a great resource for teachers, who can get essay topic ideas and see the level of students' writing at certain grade levels.

The best way to become a good writer is to read a lot of books. Reading good books stimulates your mind and makes you accustomed to correct grammar and good writing.
Plan ahead. Whenever you sit down to write anything, it is always best to start with some kind of outline just to organize your thoughts and make sure that your essay doesn't jump around all over the place.
Your first paragraph is always the most important. You want the readers to be interested from the start so that they pay more attention to the rest of your essay. Take extra care when you are writing your introduction: make sure the topic is clear, you express your thoughts clearly, and you make the reader interested enough to want to read on.
Always keep the topic in mind. If your essay strays from the topic it can get very confusing for the reader and they may lose interest.
Be an active writer. Don't use the passive voice and engage your readers by using exciting verbs and adjectives.
Don't try to make long fancy sentences with big vocabulary words. Simple sentences that get straight to the point make strong statements and keep the reader interested.
It's easy to get stuck while you are writing. Don't stress too much about it. Just take a break- a step back from your writing can help you get some new ideas.
Always proofread your work. Even the best writers make mistakes and usually they are obvious ones that you can catch and correct yourself.
